Everyone knows a wholesome, varied, nutritious diet is crucial to wellbeing. Meals packed with veggies and colors are the way to go! Superfoods, however, can take your plate to the next level! Today I will share some of my favorite superfoods. These are delicious foods I personally incorporate into my diet almost daily, and are generally widely available.
Almonds: We all know they're a good source of healthy fat, but
did you know they're also loaded with vitamin e, calcium, magnesium and
potassium and have the highest protein and fiber content of all treenuts.
Studies have shown almonds can even be effective in reducing the risk of heart
Chinese dates (jujube): A popular ingredient in traditional
Chinese medicine, they are rumored to improve immunity, replenish blood, and
have calming and anti-aging properties. They contain an array of antioxidants,
vitamins and minerals as well.
Coconut: Well known for its medium-chain
fatty acids, this fruit is also high in fiber and can rejuvenate skin. They also
contain coconut oil, which can increase metabolic rate and keep hormones
balanced. Plus it is absolutely delicious!
Goji berries: These tiny
gems contain all the essential amino acids, 21 minerals, and are higher in
antioxidants and vitamin c than any other food in the world. Some even say they
possess anti-aging benefits!
Pomegranate: This gorgeous fruit is packed
with antioxidants and heart healthy! They are a good source of vitamins c and k,
potassium, and fiber.
Pumpkin seeds: My personal favorite! They are a
very good source of minerals, especially zinc, iron, and magnesium. I eat them
Sesame seeds: Extremely rich in calcium, iron, magnesium,
zinc and selenium; minerals that play a vital role in bone mineralization, red
blood cell production, and hormone production. Also a good source of b vitamins,
healthy fats and plant-based protein.
